2023 Volume 32 Issue 18 “Obedience”

As we all know, “Obedience is better than sacrifice.”  Once again, we tell you that God demands obedience. An example of God’s deliverance, is found in I Kings 20.  Ahab was King of Israel and the King of Syria was coming to destroy his kingdom.  The King of Syria had 32 kings with him and he demanded that King Ahab give him all of his gold, silver, wives and children.  To keep peace in the land, King Ahab agreed.  Then the King of Syria demanded that King Ahab give him all that was in all homes that had value.  King Ahab consulted with the elders and they all agreed not to obey the King of Syria, whose name was Ben-ha-dad.  Ahab sent him a message saying, “Just because you put on your clothes and armor this morning, don’t boast that you will take it off tonight.”  So, the King of Syria gathered his mighty army to fight against Israel and take all.  God was watching.  God sends a Prophet to talk to Ahab saying, “Have you seen how large Ben-ha-dad’s army is?  The Prophet then tells Ahab, “God is going to deliver this multitude into your hands, destroy them.”  God instructed Ahab to send forth the princes of the provinces, which was 232 young men.  Then Ahab asked, “Who shall order the battle?”  God said, “You will.”  The young men went forth and killed the men they fought.  God sends another Prophet to warn Ahab.  The Prophet told him, “Strengthen your army, because next year the King of Syria will come back to fight you again.”  A year later, here comes Ben-ha-dad to fight against Israel.  Ben-ha-dad’s advisors told him the gods of the Israelites were only gods of the hills and that’s why Israel won the battle.  They told the King to draw the Israelites into the valley and they would beat them in battle.  God said, “He would show them that He was Lord everywhere.”  Israel’s army looked very small beside the army of Syria.  After camping side by side for a week, the battle started.  God sent His prophet to Ahab and told him, “Since the Syrians said I was only the God of the mountains and not the God of the valleys, I will deliver their army into your hands.”  The battle started and Israel slew one hundred thousand Syrian Soldiers in one day.  Then 27,000 fled into the city and God caused a wall to fall upon them and killed them all.  Ben-ha-dad fled also into the city and hid.  This is where Ahab sinned against God.  God had told Ahab, that He was going to deliver the Syrian army into his hands.  Ahab allows Ben-ha-dad to make a deal with him and let him go.  This made God angry and Ahab lost his blessings and God turned from Ahab, because of, “Disobedience.”  We, as Children of God, must learn to be obedient and believe God’s Word.  Ahab was later killed in a battle, where he was very deceptive.  †

We’ve Got The Power

Jesus made us a promise that we could do the works that He did and greater works, because He would send us the Comforter.  In John 14:12, He tells us, when we believe, we can do these works, because He goes to The Father.  In verse 26, He promises to send the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost.  When the Holy Ghost enters the body, the Power of God enters, also.  When we use this power properly, we can and will defeat every evil spirit that comes our way.  II Timothy 1:7, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”  We have the power and God gives us wisdom to use His power with authority.  You can tell the Devil and his followers to depart and leave you and your loved ones alone and he has to obey when you use God’s Word with total authority.  First and most importantly, you have to have total faith in God’s Word, knowing that you have the Holy Ghost dwelling within you.  In II Timothy 2:15, God’s Word clearly tells us, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”  Each of us, must do our part by studying God’s Word and taking authority over the enemy.  We can make this world a better place to live in, when we do.

Love Yourself and Others

When you have Christ in your heart, you have love.  Jesus clearly tells us in Scripture, John 13:34, “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I loved you, that ye also love one another.”  This is the same as the old commandment found in Leviticus 19:18, “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.”  The renewed commandment here has an additional part, “as I have loved you.”  Christ more than fulfilled the Mosaic precept.  He not only loved His neighbor, but He gave His life for others.  In John 15:13 it says, “Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.”  If Christ commands us to love our neighbors as ourselves, we should make sure we love ourselves, as we should.  You need to realize, that you have been chosen to be an heir to God’s Throne.  You are somebody and you need to let everyone know that.  One must respect themselves, if they want others to respect them.  One must care about their actions at all times.  Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.  Treat others with the same love, kindness and respect as you want them to show to you.  Search your heart and make certain there’s an abundance of love there for others.  †
