The purpose of the outreach ministry is to live out Matthew 25:35-36 by ministering to the needs of the people and sharing the gospel in the community. The team coordinates, plans, and evaluates the congregation’s outreach ministries annually.
Matthew 25:35-36: For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.
Some of our outreach ministries include jail ministry, nursing home ministry, Boys and Girls Club birthday ministry, and a community-wide skate center event.
The purpose of the Jail Ministry is to teach the word of God to men and women who are incarcerated. The West Harpeth Primitive Baptist Church Jail Ministry is certified through the Community Out-Reach Program. This ministry currently consists of four certified teachers and ministers at the John I. Easley Criminal Justice Center in Franklin, TN. The ministry is open to those that have a passion to minister the gospel and willing to become certified counselors. The Women’s Jail Ministry meets once a week. Currently the Men’s Jail Ministry position is vacant. Bibles are donated by the community and are available to prisoners upon request.
The purpose of the Nursing Home Ministry is to glorify God by visiting residents in adult care facilities—expressing love and concern, providing fellowship, witnessing, and sharing the Word of God.
The nursing home team visits two nursing homes weekly. They visit Claiborne Hughes every week and alternate between NHC on Fairground Street and Franklin Wellness & Rehabilitation Center on West Main Street. The program consists of the singing of hymns, reading of devotional scriptures, and the sharing of testimonials, encouraging the residents to participate.
Residents are given small tangible gifts from time to time during the year. While visiting the nursing facilities, the team is vigilant of unmet needs. If unmet needs are identified, the chairman of the deacons ministry is informed. If it is a woman in need, the deaconess president might be contacted.
The Boys and Girls Club ministry consists of providing birthday parties for the children during the school year. They are also given birthday cards with a gift cards enclosed and information about how to contact our church.
A community-wide family skating event is held annually in November at the Brentwood Skate Center. Food, drinks, and prizes are given.
