MEET OUR NEW PASTOR

Elder Jordan Thomas Griffin

“And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.” Jeremiah 3:15 (KJV)

On March 22, 2025, Elder Jordan Thomas Griffin was elected as senior pastor of West Harpeth Church. He is the seventh pastor in the history of our church (since 1869). He preached his first sermon as pastor elect on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025. He was officially installed on Saturday, August 16, 2025. Our national president, Dr. Kenneth Duke, was the preacher for the service. On Sunday, August 17, 2025, Elder Griffin’s home church came to celebrate with us.

Elder Griffin is from Tallahassee, Florida. He is the youngest son of Lloyd and Patricia Griffin. At the tender age of six, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He became involved in the gospel ministry at a very early age. At the age of sixteen, he was licensed under the leadership of Elder Connell Leonard, Sr.

Elder Griffin received his early education in the Leon County public school system. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Morehouse College and a Master of Divinity from Vanderbilt University with a focus on Spirituality and Social Activism and on Black Religion and Cultural Studies. Currently, he is pursuing a PhD in Theology and Ethics at Chicago Theological Seminary.

Elder Griffin’s home church is Elizabeth Popular Spring P. B. Church in Tallahassee, Florida. Reflections from his home church indicate that “Minister Griffin’s love for God shows in all he does, whether reading, playing the piano or spending time with family or friends. His goal is to preach Jesus to all who have an ear to hear. Elder Griffin joined Connection Hill Primitive Baptist Church for a local covering within the Cumberland Association f Primitive Baptist Churches.

Elder Griffin is past president of the Florida State Primitive Baptist Youth Convention. Additionally, he has interned at several churches including Mount Zion Baptist Church Nashville, First Baptist Church Capitol Hill and Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Further, he worked full-time for two years and one month (hybrid) for the Wayfarer Foundation. From September 2024 – May 2025 he was a program assistant in Wilmette, Illinois. From May 2023 – September 2024, he was a fellow in Evanston, Illinois where he managed fellows in achieving organizational tasks, providing guidance and support to ensure successful project completion; led the restructuring of fellows program by implementing recruitment and onboarding strategy, composing curriculum, and sourcing professional development opportunities; synthesized data and prepared reports focused on programmatic effectiveness for staff and grantee partners’ professional development; and partnered in crafting and leading programming to enhance organizational culture through soulful learning opportunities, immersive DEI experiences, and leadership development.

Elder Jordan Thomas Griffin is excited about the new role to which God has assigned him. His goals are to:

  • Communicate biblical truth with clarity and relevance, helping others see Jesus not only as a proclamation but as a way of life that guides their decisions and interactions

  • Commit himself to pastoral care—being present in the lives of congregants during times of joy, sorrow, and transition

  • Empower the church to serve its surrounding community, demonstrating the love of Christ in tangible ways

Deacons’ Ministry

The Deacon is the second officer of the church elected by the congregation with final approval of the Pastor. Deacons are men who are ready, willing and able to support the framework of the entire church. He should not be a new Christian. The Deacon should be a man full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom. He should have reasonable business knowledge, have a love for and be able to work with people, have an orderly household, and be committed to Christ and to the church and exhibit a Christian example.
