Pastor James Spencer, who hails from Chantilly in Manchester, Jamaica, W.I., migrated to Kingston after leaving home at an early age. It was during his youthful expedition that he was introduced to the Church where he later accepted Christ and have since been very active. There was no doubt then, that this deep interest was what inspired him to have taken a number of Bible/Theological Courses.
In addition to his keen interest in Church activities, he also became an educator, after being trained at The Mico Teachers’ College, and further obtaining a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from the University of the West Indies. Thereafter, he served as classroom teacher, and School Principal, before assuming the role of Education Officer with responsibility for Teacher training and school supervision. He further assumed the role of Senior Education Officer in the Ministry of Education, with Regional responsibility for Primary Education and acted as Regional Director on a number of occasions. Despite these responsibilities, he actively served the church.
In earlier years he served as President of the Young Peoples’ League, and Adult Advisor, and later, as Evangelist, Conference President, Board Member, Executive Member, Coordinator of Bible Study Literature, Chorister, Choir Director, Musician, Marriage Officer and Pastor of an Assembly. He also shared in many evangelistic activities, which included foreign travels. In 2005, at the passing of the first Overseer – late Pastor. H.J. Waugh, he assumed the position of Overseer, along with a close Associate, Pastor L. J. Peart (now deceased) as Deputy.
Pastor Spencer’s highest ambition is to motivate Believers to pursue the Church’s great Mission of leading others to Christ and to strive for a higher level of commitment and service to God, while also helping to satisfy other needs of Believers.
Among his personal passions/hobbies, are music, singing, drama, travels (much of which he did in earlier years and still continues to enjoy). He is married to a very wonderful, supportive lady – Evangelist Eunice Spencer and is blessed with an ambitious and supportive son, a wonderful daughter-in-law and two lovely grand- children, who all engage in the Church’s fellowship. He also considers himself ‘Blessed’ with a number of committed Believers who keep him in constant prayer.
