As a church of the Presbyterian Church(USA), we are part of the Reformed tradition, historically based in large part upon the theology of John Calvin. As such, we place a great deal of importance upon the idea of the sovereignty of God, that is a deep faith in God’s ability to shape and control our lives to accomplish God’s purposes that we love one another as ourselves, that we work toward justice for all, and that we support and sustain those on the margins of life. We affirm Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and trust in the Holy Spirit, not only for comfort but also for strength and inspiration.
While our congregation is largely in agreement about these major themes, there are often many different viewpoints about how the church should respond to God’s call. In our Presbyterian system, we are governed by representatives elected by the congregation, which forms our Session. The Session meets regularly, where full discussion is invited from all members, with tolerance to all views shown. Then they vote, and however the vote comes out, that becomes the policy of the church.
